Cloudy with a 100% Chance of Naysayers

Corporate decisions based on unsupported statements, anecdotal "facts" or emotional fears can stop digital transformation cold. The best that can be hoped for in this type of environment is a long slog towards eventual failure. Naysayers should be engaged directly in collaborative discussions around the benefits, challenges and changes that are required. Their concerns and questions should not be ignored. They should be honestly addressed with data or relevant research.

Corporate decisions based on unsupported statements, anecdotal "facts" or emotional fears can stop digital transformation cold.
Internal consensus and support are required if an accelerated digital transformation is the goal. One effective method of building consensus is through the use of independently developed, relevant data on the pros and cons of all the key decision options. Relevant and non-disputable data provides insight into the outcomes of all possible decisions. This insight will typically result in a collaborative environment, broad organizational consensus and strong momentum for the best supported decision.

Cloudy with a 100% chance of naysayers Transitioning to the cloud is a difficult organizational change management challenge mainly because of the needed information technology governance modifications. Those modifications are driven by related transitions across nine independent domains:

  1. Security Framework
  2. Application Development
  3. Data
  4. Business Processes
  5. Security Controls
  6. Economic Model
  7. Infrastructure
  8. IT Operations
  9. Technology Operational Scope
Change management best practice is to educate all concerned about the breadth and scope of these expected organizational changes. Shareholders must engage in collaborative discussions around the benefits, challenges and changes that are required. Moving ahead without a focused, holistic and effective organizational change management effort will result in internal friction, organizational infighting and a failed cloud migration program.

Cloud ASCEND™ uses a high fidelity modeling methodology that delivers relevant data on "as-is" IT operational models and alternative "to-be" future states. This approach provides relevant data on the pros and cons of all the key decision options. Data is used to gain insight on the best possible IT deployment options in a way that builds organizational consensus and broad decision support.
